Sermon Title: Return to the Garden

(Genesis 2:8-15, Revelation 21:1-4, Revelation 22:1-2)

Rev. Erik Kindem, June 23, 2019

Quick Summary:

Our congregation's focus during this year's Season of Creation is on the relationship of pollinating insects and flowering plants in largely hidden drama that unfolds in gardens and fields and orchards throughout the Northwest, across the continent, and around the world. The opening chapters of Genesis tell the story of EDEN—the primordial Garden in which all things are properly ordered and all needs are met—and of the decisions that lead to human estrangement from God, one another, and the Garden itself. The story that follows reveals God’s deep desire to repair what has been broken, God’s risky move in taking on human flesh, and Tree through which heaven and earth are united once more. The final book of Revelation reveals God’s dream for a return to a restored Eden. We join God in this dream when we practice the sacredness of our relationship with the creatures with whom we share this planet home and recommit ourselves to our first vocation as Earthkeepers.
