Sermon Title: Expectations and Hope

(Isaiah 35:1-10, Matthew 11:2-11)

Rev. Erik Kindem, December 11, 2016

Quick Summary:

Today's lessons focus on expectations, disappointment, and hope. Isaiah uses his bold pallet to show us what happens when God brings springtime to desert lives. Meanwhile, John the Baptist, sitting in prison, wonders if Jesus is the Messiah. In this season famous for unfulfilled expectations, we wait for the promises of God to meet our experience of failure.

The story of Jewish teenagers working to re-construct a meaningful life for themselves after being orphaned by the Holocaust, is told in the film THE MIRACLE. Hope can and does blossom in the most unlikely places.
