Sermon Title: Tenacious Prayer

(Luke 18:1-8)

Rev. Erik Kindem, October 16, 2016

Quick Summary:

The film "THE 33" tells the true life story of a mine collapse in Chili that strands 33 miners 2,300 feet below the surface for 69 days. The drama above ground includes the families of those miners and the relentless voices of family members like Maria Segovia calling for action on their behalf.
In today's parable Jesus calls us to be like Maria--keeping on praying and never giving up.

Our congregation's Offering of Letters Sunday is an occasion to express our voices through the power of the pen to advocate on behalf of vulnerable infants, children, and the women who care for them; to never give up in imagining a world where needs are taken care of.

History teaches us that it takes extraordinary commitment to effect change. And that one action, combined with others, can finally break the impasse. Like the widow of the parable God calls us to stand up, to go public, to persist with our voices in order to induce change.
