Sermon Title: Cosmos

(Proverbs 8:22-31, Colossians 1:15-20)

On this final Sunday of a 3-week Season of Creation we take out our telescopes to behold a universe more vast and complex than our wildest imaginations.

Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson reminds us that the very atoms that comprise life on Earth--including the atoms that make up our human bodies--are traceable to stellar crucibles.

Our perception of God's creation is a matter of "seeing." On this 500th anniversary year of the Reformation, this dialog sermon takes Luther's insight that SALVATION IS NOT FOR SALE and applies it to God's good creation: CREATION IS NOT FOR SALE.

Christ's incarnation, dying and rising become the LENS through which we see WHO WE ARE and OUR VOCATION within this unfolding drama within this 13.8 billion year old universe. With the eyes of Christ we see, as Pope Francis has said, that "Earth is a sister who cried out to us because of the harm we have inflicted on her by our irresponsible use and abuse of the good with which God has endowed her." Christ suffers with the suffering creation. Serving Christ means serving creation.
