Sermon Title: Love Beyond Limits

(1 Corinthians 13:1-13, Luke 4:16-30)

Rev. Erik Kindem, January 31, 2016

Quick Summary:

Singer and songwriter Brittany Howard of ALABAMA SHAKES says: "If energy is never destroyed, then anyone you’ve every loved and anyone who’s ever loved you—none of that love ever goes away, it never disappears, it’s always around you."

St. Paul says:
"Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things, love never ends."

Love like this offends us. That's what happened--and got Jesus into trouble--when he gave the sermon at his hometown congregation.

Dr. Larycia Hawkins, tenured professor at Wheaton College in channeled this kind of love when she donned a headscarf in solidarity with her Muslim neighbors.

When tribalism, nationalism and religious bigotry are on the rise and fundamentalism of every stripe seeks to draw hard lines and assign destinies, the testimonies of Paul and of Jesus invite us to go beyond those boundaries.
